The Washington Demon boys’ track and field team had a strong showing Tuesday at the Wartburg High School Invitational at Wartburg College in Waverly, finishing tied for sixth in team scoring.
Washington was led by a victory from sophomore Greyson Hartman in the shot put, posting a top toss of 50 feet 10-and-a-half inches that was over a foot further than second place.
Junior Sawyer Tschantz had a top-tier finish by taking fourth place in the 1,600-meter run, while senior Jayfred Espinosa was fifth in the long jump. Espinosa was also 10th in the 200 meters, joining Demon teammates with top-10 finishes like junior Carson Ryan in the 400; senior Logan McDole in the 800; and senior Tyler Alderton in the 800 and 3,200.
Washington also got a sixth-place time in the 4-by-800 relay from the team of Ryan, sophomore Ethan Hotchkiss and freshmen Teag Miller and Parker Tschantz. The Demons will next compete in one week’s time when they host the annual Steve Roth Relays at Case Field.
