
The Sigourney Savages are preparing to start a new season of girls’ track and field. Sigourney has one Class 1A state qualifier back from last season after senior McKinley Chittick punched a ticket to Des Moines in the high jump.
Junior Addison Yates will also look for more medals in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters, as will senior Josephine Moore in the discus throw. Mix in sprint relay teams that won bronze medals at the conference meet, and Savages head coach Kaylee Weber tells KCII Sports she’s excited about what this year’s group can do.
“We have a lot of options,” Weber says. “We have potential to win some track meets and hopefully get some girls to state. My goal for them is to just get better every day, and they’ll see improvement, maybe not today or tomorrow, but they’ll see it.”
Sigourney will have their first track meet of the season this Tuesday at the Belle Plaine Invitational.
