The WACO Warrior track teams stretched their competitive muscles by taking part in the University of Dubuque High School Indoor Classic Thursday and Friday.
WACO was led in the girls’ competition by freshman Bren Graber, who was the champion of the high jump by clearing an even five feet in the fewest tries. Graber also finished sixth in the finals of the 55-meter hurdles run with a time of 9.62 seconds after taking eighth in the preliminary heats.
The Warriors took fifth place in the sprint medley relay thanks to the team of Graber, fellow freshman Josie Dykstra and sophomores Brenna Graber and Carlee Lunsford.
Lunsford ended up 13th in the open 800 meters and 14th in the 400, while Dykstra also had top-20 finishes in both races. Sophomore Hayden Shelman had the best finish for the WACO boys after taking ninth in the long jump.
