Changes are coming to the campus landscape at Mid-Prairie High School in Wellman. The Mid-Prairie district and board have opened bids for work on a new athletic facility to be located on the north side of campus between the current indoor multi-purpose facility and the press box at Dwight G. Sattler Field. The proposed facility would be just shy of 13,000 square feet with two levels. The second floor would be more than 10,000 square feet and include a wrestling room large enough for three regulation sized mats, a weight room, restrooms, changing areas and showers. The lower level is just over 2,500 square feet, and would be a space for concessions, restrooms and storage. Infrastructure including additional sidewalks, stoops and pavement between the new building and existing structures is included in the project.

The district has partnered with OPN Architects in Cedar Rapids to design the project and Carl A. Nelson & Company of Burlington will serve as the construction manager. Bids are due by March 27th at 2 p.m. to the Mid-Prairie School District Board Room.

This project was made possible when a public measure totaling $8.7 million, which included a new wrestling facility as one of several projects, was passed in a 2023 election. The current Mid-Prairie wrestling room has been in use since the 1989-90 season.
