It’s a Monday doubleheader for the Highland School Board. At 5 p.m. the board will conduct a public hearing on the proposed property tax levy notice which includes receipt of both oral and written public comment. Immediately following at 5:15 p.m. the board will initiate an exempt meeting which includes negotiating sessions, mediation, arbitration and strategy meetings of public employers and employee organizations. Included in the agenda is a descriptive statement from the Iowa Association of School Boards which outlines that while a board can choose to follow the rules of an open meeting, an exempt meeting is not subject to the same requirements as an open meeting, including but not limited to, it can be held without public notice, taping or minutes and without vote or motion.

The initial meeting starts at 5 p.m. Monday, March 24th in the Highland board room.
