The Highland Huskies are preparing to get out of the starting blocks in a new season of girls’ track and field. Highland qualified for the Class 1A state championships in the 4-by-100-meter relay last season, and three members of that team are back in senior Lilly Barre and sophomores Hailey Brun and Alexa Hahn.
In addition to finishing second in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North in the 4-by-100, Barre finished third in the conference in the 200 meters for the Huskies, as did Hahn in the long jump.
Add on new faces like talented freshmen Kamryn Fink and Mayia Singbeil, and you can see why head coach Angie Strobel tells KCII Sports she’s excited about her team’s potential.
“They’re all tough competitors,” Strobel says, “and I just love watching them do their thing on the track. I’m excited for the season to see what they can do with quite a few freshmen added to the mix that are very promising, as well.”
Highland will have its first outdoor meet of the track season later today at the Columbus Invitational.
