We’re getting closer to kickoff of a new season for Columbus Wildcat boys’ soccer. Columbus had just three wins a season ago, their fewest in the last decade, but many young players that led the way last year are back.

Junior Sachiel Villagrana returns after scoring eight goals, while starting goalkeeper Leo Corona is also back for his junior season and Bryan Tlatenchi will be one of the team’s senior leaders. Wildcats head coach Luis Cacho tells KCII Sports that last spring’s uncharacteristic struggles are going to make this year’s team better.

“I think we learned from last year that we’ve got to be consistent,” Cacho says. “We’ve got to compete at the highest level, and we’ve got three or four players that are coming back from last year. We’ve got a combination of young players with the senior players that are ready to give everything on the field, and we are expecting that this is going to be a good season and we are looking forward to it.”

Columbus will play its first match of the season next Tuesday at Washington.
