Residents in rural Louisa County, northwest of Columbus Junction, have been dealing with water issues over the last week and a boil order is now in effect. Through a statement on social media the City of Columbus Junction and Columbus Junction Public Works reported Wednesday, March 19th, residents in the area of 165th Street and G36 were without water. Testing over the next 48 hours showed that the water was chlorinated, leading officials to believe it was a city water issue. Those on-site began work to track down the issue, uncovering a repair coupling failure on Monday.
Further information released by the city, confirmed as of Tuesday morning, stated that repairs had been made to a main break on a 6-inch line that supplies Toddtown. Water has been turned back on for the affected areas and hydrants have been flushed. Residents on G36 and 165th Street are under a boil order until further notice. Samples have been taken and authorities are waiting on official test results for bacteria levels. It is also likely customers in the area will experience discolored water and air in the lines. Affected residents should either use bottled water or boil water before using it to drink, make ice, brush teeth, prepare food or otherwise.
KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
