A new season of Sigourney-Keota soccer is about to kick off. SK had just one win a year ago but had to lean on a very young roster with little varsity experience.
That will not be the case this season. Goal scorers like sophomore Ayden Galindo and juniors Jackson Vittetoe and Chase Haifley are back, as well as last season’s assist leader in junior Gavin Khali.
Senior Reanah Utterback returns as one of the anchors of the defensive back line along with starting goalkeeper Wells Clark, who made almost 190 saves as a sophomore. Sigourney-Keota head coach Alex Holt tells KCII Sports that their success will start with defense.
“We do feel good about defense,” Holt says. “I think we have a good plan, as far as how we fix that. Our defensive approach is going to be a little different this year. We definitely have a lot of experience on the defensive end [in] what not to do and what worked last year, too.”
SK plays its first match of the new soccer season this coming Monday at WACO.
