Over 250 area students will be learning about money management and budgeting at Kirkwood Community College Workplace Learning Connection’s annual Financial Literacy Fair, and volunteers are needed. Students will learn about financial well-being, career paths, and the basics of budgeting. They will select a career based on their aptitude and interests, and then determine their monthly income and develop a budget.

Students go from booth to booth to make decisions on housing, insurance, vehicles, clothing, food and more. They analyze their wants versus their needs.

At the end of the event, students meet with a volunteer “financial counselor” who reviews the students’ work and sees how expenses line up with their budgets.

Volunteers will receive a brief training before students arrive. No experience is necessary.

Eighth grade students from Washington, Mid-Prairie and Highland will be taking part in the event at the KC Hall in Washington on the morning of April 16th.
