The Columbus Wildcats will be getting a new golf season started this week. Columbus has a host of returners for the boys’ team, including junior Kason Dopler, who had the second-best scoring rounds on the team last spring, and senior Ryan Coil, who had the second-lowest cumulative adjusted average score at nearly 51-and-a-half strokes.
The Wildcats also return senior Payton White and sophomore Mason Hardy. Head coach Dave Whittman tells KCII Sports that he sees a lot of potential in his squad once they iron everything out.
“I think everybody’s got room for improvement,” Whittman says. “I think they all have the capability of shooting in the 40s, and some guys can get down in the low 40s, so [I am] looking forward to just improving as the season goes on.”
The Columbus girls will have back juniors Hailey Wellington and Kinlee Brown, who led the team in scoring in 2024. Both Wildcat teams tee off this spring later today at New London.
