The Keota Eagles are getting set to begin a new golf season. Keota had a marvelous 2024 season on the boys’ side, reaching the Class 1A state tournament as a team after winning a sectional championship and finishing tied for sixth at state, the only meet in which they finished worse than third place.

While most of that roster had since graduated, the Eagles do return senior Billie Kindred, who shot a team-low, 11-over-par 82 at the state meet and had a cumulative adjusted average of just under 45 strokes last spring.

Sophomore Brennan McGuire also returns after shooting low rounds of 42 for a nine-hole course and 82 for 18 holes in his first year with the team. Keota head coach Rod Hill tells KCII Sports that he didn’t have to worry about getting everyone in shape for the season, because his players are on the course as often as possible.

“They just go out and they play golf,” Hill says. “They’ve been out there playing quite a bit already this spring. [Even] when it’s just a halfway decent day, they’re out there playing golf. It’s fun to go out there and see the kids enjoy playing.”

On the girls’ side, senior Lainey Swanson is back after having the low rounds for the Eagles last season. Both Keota teams will play their first meets of 2025 Monday when they host a triangular with Sigourney and Colfax-Mingo.
