
Two local Southeast Iowa Superconference boys track teams put together impressive performances Thursday at the Van Buren Invitational.
The WACO Warriors were led by four titles on the night, including two from Jude Dykstra who was the 800 winner in 2:08.46 and the 3200 winner in 10:46.84. Hayden Shelman won the 400 in 54.11 seconds and the 4×100 team of Isaac Rich, Shelman, Gage Samo and Louden Huisenga won gold in 45.54 seconds. Shelman went runner-up in long jump as did Huisenga in high jump and Garrett Landau in the two-mile. Third place finishes included Samo in long jump, Gavin Slagel in the 3200, Shelman in the 200, Dykstra in the 400, Locken Henderson in the 400 hurdles, and Landau in the mile. Fourth place belonged to Samo in the 100, Slagel in the mile, the sprint medley team of Anthony Carroll, Trey Edeker, Layke Millspaugh and Rich, and the distance med with Braxton Stauffer, Eli Cavin, Slagel and Landau. Carroll was fifth in the 100, as was Henderson in the 400 and the 4×200 team of Carroll, Cavin, Bryson Waterhouse and Stauffer.
Hillcrest Academy had a pair of championship events with Owen Scott winning the long jump on a new PR of 22’6.50” and Kale Bailey the high jump with his own PR of 6’1”. The 4×200 team of Cohen Nachtigall, Bailey, Kayden Estell and Scott were runners-up. Scott was third in the 100 and Gibson Scott was fourth in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the 400 hurdles.
The Ravens are next on the track Tuesday when they go to Mediapolis. WACO hosts their own meet Tuesday.
