The Highland Huskies topped the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves in the team competition as part of a season-opening girls’ golf dual Thursday at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Winfield.

Highland’s combined score of 184 strokes was 43 less than WMU, and the Huskies had the three lowest individual rounds of the meet. Adisyn Prottsman shot the medalist round of five-over-par 41, collecting just three bogeys and one double-bogey over nine holes.

Fellow junior Emersyn Schutlz was only one stroke back of Prottsman and added a birdie on the second hole to four bogeys. Senior Adeline Krotz fired a 45 for the Huskies and also had four bogeys and a birdie on the fourth, while freshman Joslyn Prottsman debuted with a 20-over 56.

Senior Kellee Milks shot a 52 to pace Winfield-Mount Union, while junior Bryn Pogmore recorded a 55 for the Wolves and freshman Ashlyn Bender finished with a 58 on her first career varsity card.

While there was no boys’ team competition, WMU got the low round of the afternoon from senior Sinjin Brown, who picked up birdies on the second and fourth holes on his way to a three-over 39. Junior teammate Konner Kinneberg was only one stroke behind him and had one birdie against one bogey and two doubles.

Justin Knipfer did no worse than his six bogeys on his way to a 42 for Winfield-Mount Union, while fellow sophomore Cody Milks fired a 43 that included three bogeys and two doubles. Junior Nick Sparrow had three bogeys and added a 44, while junior Max Edwards carded a 48.

Sophomore Isaac Giesemann had the low round for Highland with a 59. While the Huskies next take on Louisa-Muscatine this afternoon in Riverside, the WMU Wolves also compete later today against WACO.
