Both the Keota Eagles and Sigourney Savages competed Thursday in track and field. Keota was led by two winners at the Pekin Invitational, including Ayden Galindo, who claimed another championship in the high jump by clearing five feet 10 inches.
Fellow sophomore Jack Greiner also won in the 800-meter run with a time of two minutes 14 seconds. Junior Jacob Libe would finish third in the 400-meter hurdles, as would the Eagles’ distance medley relay.
The Sigourney boys would put a good showing together at the Steve Ehret Co-Ed Relays at North Mahaska, finishing fourth in team scoring. Senior Jayden Thompson helped lead the way for the Savages with a victory in the shot put throw, hitting 40 feet five-and-a-half inches on his best toss. Thompson was also second in the discus.
Junior Troy Klett added another gold medal by winning the 1,600 meters in four minutes 58 seconds while also finishing runner up in the 400. Senior Caden Clarahan was second in the 110 hurdles, as was Sigourney’s shuttle hurdles relay, while the 4-by-800-meters came in third and freshman Carson Davis added another bronze in the high jump.
The Savage girls were led at North Mahaska by senior Josephine Moore, who was second in the shot put. Ellie Yates also won silver in the 3,000 meters, while fellow junior Addison Yates was third in that same race and the 1,500.
