The Wellman City Council came to an agreement on their city sanitation contract in March. Cox Sanitation of North English has handled the responsibilities for the city in the recent past, and while they were one of three final bids, council chose N&N Sanitation out of Kalona for trash and recycling services. The contract from N&N was $7,500 more, based on dumpster fees, which Cox did not charge the city. The agreement with Cox would have involved changes for residents including the use of 65-gallon bins, instead of purchasing bags as they have had to do previously, and Cox would have purchased a new truck to empty bins automatically. During meeting negotiations, N&N said they would reconsider dumpster fees, which turned things in their favor, based on the discount. N&N also discussed their extensive experience with automated equipment, including maintenance and backup trucks if necessary.

The contract lasts for a period of five years, beginning December 1st.
