Dwarf iris, Virginia Bluebells, and grape hyacinth are blooming in Southern Iowa. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resource’s weekly woodland wildflower report, last week’s spring weather has led to a variety of wildflowers to bloom in Henry County. Snow trillium is on the decline, while sharp-lobed hepatica blooms are increasing along with Virginia Bluebells, Dutchman’s breeches, purple cress, Spring cress, and grape hyacinth.

Along the trails in Jefferson County Park, snow trillium, bloodroot, false rue anemone, and sharp-lobed hepatica can be found blooming. Also popping up are leaves of spring beauty, common blue violet, Dutchman’s breeches, prairie trillium, Jacob’s ladder and Virginia bluebells.

In addition, dandelions are starting to bloom again in the region.
