
The Washington Demon boys’ track and field team put together a great showing last night at the Wapello Senior Night Meet, scoring 119 points to take second place at only seven points behind the winners from Mediapolis.
Washington was powered to a runner-up finish behind Greyson Hartman. The sophomore won the shot put toss by hitting 53 feet seven-and-a-half inches and also had the best discus throw of nearly 143 feet. The Demons also won the 4-by-100-meter relay in 44.41 seconds and the 4-by-800 in almost 9:32.
Jayfred Espinosa would finish third in the 100-meter dash for Washington, as would fellow seniors Logan McDole in the 200 meters and Tyler Alderton in the 400. Freshman Isaac Medrano added a bronze medal in the 110-meter hurdles, as did junior Carson Ryan in the 400 hurdles.
On their way to a fourth-place finish as a team at Wapello, Winfield-Mount Union got two victories from Kohlby Newsom. The junior won the 400 meters in 51.29 seconds and the mile in just over four-and-a-half minutes.
Fellow junior Sheaden Adams was the champion of the 200 for the Wolves, clocking in at 24.34 seconds, while WMU also finished second in the 4-by-800 and third in the shuttle hurdles relay.
