Lone Tree held a local spring student track athlete showcase Monday at the Mike Kautz Invitational, featuring five schools from the KCII listening area.
The Columbus Wildcat boys added to their trophy collection, scoring the team championship with 237 points, 99 more than second place Louisa-Muscatine. The ‘Cats took home a staggering 11 event championships. Lamar Ceant won the 110 hurdles in 16.05 seconds and the 200 in 24.16 seconds. Riley Kaalberg was the 100 winner in 11.96 seconds and long jump champ at 19’8”. Ty Muniz won the 800 in 2:17.94 and 3200 in 10:26.87. Angel Venzor took the 400 hurdles in 1:03.55. Victor Tovar was the mile winner in 5:19.29. In relays, the shuttle hurdle team of Ceant, Juan Miranda, Kaalberg and Alex Rees were winners in 1:05.98, as was the 4×8 with Cade Storm, Tyson Cornielle, Elias Gonzalez-Bravo and Alan Miranda in 10:02.26 and the distance medley with Tyson Kaalberg, Dante Orozco-Gutierrez, Venzor and Muniz in 10:26.87. Runners-up included Rees in the 110 hurdles and 200, Storm in the 400 hurdles, Gonzalez-Bravo in the mile, and Fritz Figaro in discus and shot put. Second place relays included the sprint medley with Orozco-Gutierrez, Tyson Kaalberg, Juan Chairez and Lando Garza, the 4×1 with Chairez, Rees, Ceant and Riley Kaalberg, the 4×2 with Ellis Hills-Carrier, Fritz Massillon, Cornielle and Chairez and the 4×4 with Orozco-Gutierrez, Garza, Venzor and Tyson Kaalberg. Third place finishers included Victor Tovar in the 800 and two-mile, Ronaldo Villegas in discus and shot put and Garza in the 400.
The Mid-Prairie boys were third with 77 points. The Golden Hawks won two titles including Josh Turner at 5’10” in high jump and in the 4×1 with Kaden and Kendrick Kos, Nolan Jergens and Ryan Henry in 44.32 seconds. The 4×8 team of Lenox Miller, Jesse Stultz, Jonathon Pickard and Evan Reschly were runners-up. In third place was the sprint medley with Shay Myers, Austin Capps, Keegan Bauwens and Samuel Friessen, the 4×200 with Friessen, Bauwens, Miller and Myers, the 4×4 with Friessen, Bauwens, Miller and Harvey Bunting and the distance medley with Capps, Theo Molczyk, Bunting and Reschly.
Lone Tree was fourth with 44 points. The Lions were led by Dom Garcia and Emmett Burke second in the 100 and 400 respectively. Third places went to Garcia in the 200, Gray Spilman in high jump and Burke in long jump.
Highland was fifth with 31 points. The Huskies won the 4×200 title with Liam Roberts, Bryce Hazelett, William Dunbar and Cayden Day. The Dogs also got a third place finish from Dunbar in the 100 and the 4×1 team of Roberts, Dunbar, Hazelett and Day.
Keota scored four points with Luke Moeller going fifth in the 400.
Lone Tree had the top area finish at their home meet on the girls side, placing second with 143 points. They were edged out by 149 for Louisa-Muscatine. The Lady Lions had six titles on the night including Ava Christofferson in the 200 in 29.10 seconds and the long jump at 16’ one half inch. Rylee Shield won the 100 in 1:03.75. The sprint medley of Addison McCullough, Vivian Zaruba, Christofferson and Shield beat the field in 1:56.83 as did the same group in the 4×100 at 53.37 seconds and the distance medley with Finley Jacque, Cate Sexton, Lindsay Baltazar and Jazmine Nino in 5:10.92. Second place events included Zaruba in the 100 and 200, Shield in long jump and Hayden Yoder in shot put. Runner-up relays were McCullough, Abby Zaruba, Dalanie Graap and Jacque in the 4×200, Addyson Eiben, Lindsay Baltazar, Abby Zaruba and Nino in the 4×4 and Eiben, Abby Zaruba, Graap and Sexton in the 4×800. Eiben in the 400 and Yoder in discus were both third.
Columbus was third with 116 points. The Wildcats won five events including Kymila Bacon in the 100 at 14.16 seconds. Ariana Vergara in the 100 hurdles in 18.44 seconds. Naveiah Garza took high jump at 4’8”. Isabella Forbes won shot put at 33’10.25” and the shuttle hurdle team of Ellie Sanders, Rozlynn Garza, Denise Ascencio and Ariana Vergara were winners in 1:20.32. Runner-up events included Forbes in discus and the 4×100 team of Vergara, Jocelyn Hernandez, Daniela Diaz and Kymila Bacon. In third were Sanders in the 100 hurdles, Bacon in the 200, Gabriella Duran in the 800 and the 4×200 team of Diaz, Garza, Ascencio and Hernandez.
The Highland Huskies were fourth with 82 points. Highland got a championship from Mayia Singbeil in the 400 hurdles at 1:15.43. Second place events included Singbeil in the 100 hurdles, Grace Bombei in the 1500, the shuttle hurdle with Alexa Hahn, Brena Hazelett, Larissa Murphy and Singbeil and the distance medley with Murphy, Hazelett, Ava Sexton and Bombei. In third were Kamryn Fink in the 100, Hahn in long jump, Chloe Sexton in shot put, the sprint medley of Hailey Brun, Fink, Lilly Barre and Singbeil and the 4×1 with Hahn, Brun, Barre and Fink.
Keota was fifth with 35 points. The Eagle 4×200 of Olivia Lyle, Cameron Haifley, Emily Moeller and Elyse Lyle were winners in 2:03.07 and the 4×4 with Olivia Lyle, Jaylah Redlinger, Haifley and Elyse Lyle were third.
