The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys golf team hosted their home 18-hole Invitational Tuesday at the Kalona Golf Course. Mid-Prairie was fourth of nine competing teams with their score of 350. The overall championship went to West Branch and their winning number 332. Clayton Davidson had the low day for the Hawks with an 84, keyed by a 39 on the back nine, to finish fifth overall. Bryce Henry was seventh with an 86. Those two joined KCII Sports after the tournament to talk about the day.

Davidson said, “It’s a grind. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, so you have to keep playing the best that you can and hopefully come out with a good score.  It was pretty windy and dry. We were playing it down so you didn’t always get the best lie. My front nine was rough, shot 45, couldn’t buy a par. My back nine had a lot more pars, couple of bogeys and I birded seven.”

Henry added, “Like Clayton said, it’s a grind. You have to keep going and keep a good mindset. My front nine I shot a 44, kind of average, getting bogeys. Back nine I shot a 42, I had a chip-in birdie on one. That was my highlight hole.”

Other scores for the Hawks included Denver Nelson and Hudson Ehrenfelt 90, Grayson Gingerich 91 and Ace Peck 93. Individual champion was Wilton’s Ben Garvin with a 77. The Golden Hawks are back on the course Monday at the Wildcat Invitational in Durant.
