The Sigourney Savages continued their excellent start to the golf season Tuesday with a second-place finish as a team at the Albia Boys’ Invitational. Sigourney’s combined team score of 326 strokes was only nine more than the winning and hosting Blue Demons.

Solon Yates led the Savages by shooting a six-over-par 78 that was also third overall. Senior teammate Cain Weber finished ninth with an 83, with sophomore Ike Molyneux only one stroke behind him.

Senior Isaac Bruns added an 87 for Sigourney, while junior Josh Wyatt had an 89. The Savages had just won a dual with conference rival HLV/Tri-County the day before, posting a team score of 163 to edge out the Warriors by five strokes.

Yates was second overall and had Sigourney’s low nine-hole round of 39, while Molyneux carded a 40 and freshman Jordan Tremmel finished with 41. Bruns and Wyatt each added a 43 for the Savages, while Weber collected a 51.

The Sigourney girls also defeated HLV in a dual Monday, finishing 46 strokes better than the Warriors with a final team score of 203. Junior Kayla Renner was the meet medalist by firing the Savages’ low round of 49.

Sigourney freshman Ella Bruns was the runner-up at just one stroke behind Renner, with Hannah Hanselman only two back in third and fellow senior Reagan Clarahan tied for fourth with a 53. Junior Ellie Ireland added a 55 for the Savages.

The Keota Eagle boys also won a South Iowa Cedar League dual Monday at Montezuma, combining for a team score of 166 and finishing 32 strokes ahead of the Braves.

Senior Billie Kindred took medalist honors by leading Keota with a 36, while Porter Cave finished with 40 for the Eagles and fellow sophomore Cooper Strand had a 44. Sophomores Tucker Sprouse and Brycen Horras added rounds of 46 and 52, respectively.

The Keota girls finished with 268 and were over 30 strokes back of Montezuma, but Eagles sophomore Lainey Swanson was the individual medalist by shooting a low round of 54.
