
The Sigourney Savages had plenty of success Tuesday during the boys’ portion of the Ruth Ahrens Invitational at Iowa Valley High School in Marengo. Junior Troy Klett produced two of Sigourney’s four total victories, winning the 1,600-meter run with a time of four minutes 56 seconds and the 3,200 meters in just under 10:47.
The Savages also claimed first place in the 4-by-800-meter relay by clocking in at 9:54, while freshman Carson Davis cleared five feet six inches in the high jump to tie for first. Sigourney took second in the sprint medley relay to go with third-place finishes in the distance medley, shuttle hurdles, 4-by-100-meters and 4-by-400.
Junior John Berg won a silver medal for the Savages in the 800 meters, as did senior Caden Clarahan in the 100-meter hurdles, while sophomores Chase Clarahan and Carson O’Rourke took bronze in the 100 hurdles and 100 open, respectively.
Senior Ashton Schwab also finished third in the discus toss for the Sigourney boys, while Ellie Yates did the same for the Savage girls Monday in the 3,000 meters.
The WACO Warriors took both of their track teams to the Lisbon Co-Ed Opener on Tuesday and had three individual winners. Junior Jude Dykstra was one of those, claiming the title in the boys’ 800 in 2:09, while sophomore Hayden Shelman leaped 21 feet seven-and-three-quarter inches to win the long jump.
Carlee Lunsford added a gold medal for WACO by taking the crown in the girls’ 800 in just over two-and-a-half minutes. Shelman was second in the boys’ 200, as was Dykstra in the mile, while the Warriors also won silver in the sprint medley and bronze in the distance medley. The WACO girls’ distance medley relay ended up second, while freshman Josie Dykstra added a third-place finish in the 400 hurdles.
