A Mt. Pleasant nursing home has hit the two-year mark as a Special Focus Facility, according to the latest data released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Arbor Court has been designated as an SFF, which is a facility that receives additional scrutiny from the CMS due to violations on past inspections, for 24 months.

On the facility’s most recent inspection, five violations were found, the most severe of which was an administrative infraction for failing to have a plan in place for quality assurance. While the number of infractions was stagnant, the severity was improved from July, when the facility was listed for accident hazards and failure to prevent accidents.

Prior to being designated as an SFF, Arbor Court was listed as an SSF candidate for 13 months, putting the total time that it has been flagged by CMS at over three years.

Only two facilities per state can be designated as SSFs at a time. Care facilities can be removed from the program either by resolving their issues and graduating from the program or by being terminated from eligibility for Medicare and Medicaid services.
