
Both Winfield-Mount Union golf teams defeated WACO in duals Thursday at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Winfield. The WMU boys’ combined team score of 165 strokes would be nearly 50 less than the Warriors.
A three-over-par round of 39 by junior Konner Kinneberg led the Wolves, while sophomore Cody Milks finished with 41 and junior Max Edwards had a 42. Sophomore Justin Knipfer added a 48, and juniors Nick Sparrow and Grant Anderson were just as good by carding rounds of 43 and 48, respectively.
Winfield-Mount Union beat WACO in the girls’ competition by over 20 strokes with a team score of 223. Freshman Ashyln Bender shot a 12-over 48 to lead the Wolves, while junior Kellee Milks added a 54.
The Columbus Wildcats would also earn a conference dual victory over Danville in girls’ golf Thursday at Flint Hills Golf Course in Burlington. Columbus’ team score of 420 would be just under 50 strokes less than the Bears, with junior Hailey Wellington leading the Wildcats by shooting a 98.
The Columbus boys would fall in an 18-hole conference triangular at Flint Hills, as their team score of 466 would be more than both Danville and New London. Junior Kason Dopler had the top round for the Wildcats at 91.
