The spring season is here and the Washington High School chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA) is ready to help you beautify your landscape. The students are preparing to kick off their annual plant sale this Saturday. Chapter members have been cultivating plants this spring and working with other local districts to help supplement the stock available to the public. Earlier this spring, KCII news talked with chapter officers Jade Sheetz, Lauren Lukavsky and Isabelle Peterson, about the sale, what is available and how the proceeds are used, “In the greenhouse this spring, we’ve been planting. We got new plants in, and we also have hanging baskets. Then we move forward and it’s just advertising it and sitting there and selling them in the greenhouse. We’ll have a lot of different things including tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, basil, oregano, millet, petunias, begonias, squash, cantaloupe, cabbage, broccoli, marigolds, and a ton of other, different flowers. Just come to the greenhouse. We’ll have an open house at the greenhouse, so anyone can come. We’ll have the doors open and you can look around. We use the proceeds from this when we go to sub-districts or districts and state. It helps pay for our expenses at those. It pays for activities throughout the year. It helps kids get to those different events. It really just helps fund our program for the next year moving forward.”
