Walkers, runners, athletes and spectators will all be part of the fun at Saturday’s YMCA of Washington County Kewash 5K/10K/half marathon. The event, in its 11th year, will wind participants around the City of Washington from the square, to near Stewart Elementary, back to Sunset Park and out of town to the west on the Kewash Nature Trail. Race Director Kyla Wilkening spoke with KCII News about event preparations and what she is looking forward to most, “We’ll meet again after this year’s race in August to get things going like the shirt design. Once January rolls around, we’re meeting a couple of times a month. In April, we’ve started meeting about every week. We have six of us on the race crew. On race day, we’ll meet about 4:30 in the morning, setting up all of the stuff, getting the food ready, getting runners packets to them, making sure everything is going smoothly. We all work together as a team. It’s really fun! I really love the race day atmosphere so I’m just looking forward to the start mostly. I think that’s the most fun start of the day. The whole day is super fun, so I look forward to the full day!”

Area road closures through noon Saturday in Washington include portions of North Second Avenue, East Seventh Street, North Fourth Avenue, East Fifth Street, West Main Street, South Second Avenue, South Iowa Avenue, West Washington Street, North H Avenue, South F Avenue, West Third Street, West Fifth Street and Highway 1.
