
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys track and field team ran away from the competition Tuesday at their home meet at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman. Mid-Prairie won the meet with 222 points, beating second place Grinnell by 93. It was eleven event championships for the Golden Hawks. Multi-event winners for the Hawks included Jayden Stafford in the wheelchair 100, 200 and 400 in times of 19.20 seconds, 33.05 seconds and 1:04.62 respectively. Ryan Henry was the fastest man on the track, winning the 100 in 11.29 seconds and the 200 in 23.01 seconds. The Hawks threw a 1-2 punch in the two-mile with Emmett Swartzentruber scoring a win in 9:37.21 and Preston Yutzy going second. Swartzentruber backed that up with a title in the mile at 4:41.91. Nolan Jergens was the fastest in the quarter mile at 54.65 seconds, Burke Berry won shot put with a throw of 55’4.5” and the Golden Hawk sprint medley and 4x4s were winners in 1:36.40 and 3:38.42 respectively.
Runner-up events included Tommy Miller in shot put and discus, Carson Humphrey in the 110 hurdles, Josh Turner in high jump and the 4×800 team. In third were Humphrey in the 400, Max Swartzentruber in the mile, Kaden Kos in discus, long jump from Thomas Lueck and the shuttle hurdle team.
The Golden Hawks honored 11 on Senior Night including Keegan Bauwens, Burke Berry, Thomas Flynn, Landon Kos, Shay Myers, Dominik Shively, Jayden Stafford, Emmett Swartzentruber, Conner Wiles, Jayse Yoder and Preston Yutzy.
