
WACO boys’ track and field kept the team championship at home Tuesday while hosting the Warrior Relays at Roth Track and Field in Wayland. The Warriors finished with a team score of 157 points that was not only best in Class B but tops across both divisions.
Two victories for Hayden Shelman helped lead the way to a home team win for WACO. The sophomore was the Class B champion in the 200-meter dash in 23.73 seconds, and Shelman also had the best long jump with a top leap of 19 feet 11-and-a-half inches.
Junior Jude Dysktra also had a pair of gold medals for the Warriors, winning the 800 meters in two minutes nine seconds and the 3,200 in just over 10-and-a-half minutes. Senior Louden Huisenga added a title for WACO in the high jump by clearing five feet eight inches.
Shelman would finish second in the 100 meters, as would Dysktra in the 400 and junior Garrett Landau in the 1,600; Landau was also third in the 3,200, as was freshman Anthony Carroll in the 100.
The Warriors finished with bronze medals in the 4-by-800-meter relay and the distance medley while also winning silver in the sprint medley, the shuttle hurdles and both the 4-by-100 and 4-by-200 meters
Sigourney would be runner-up in the team standings, only 14-and-a-half points behind WACO. Freshman Carson Davis was a winner in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of one minute four seconds, while the Savages also won the Class B title in the shuttle hurdles in 1:05 and the 4-by-400 in 3:51.
Junior Troy Klett would take second in both the 800 and two-mile for Sigourney, as did Davis in the high jump, senior Caden Clarahan in the 110 hurdles, freshman Dillon Menke in the 400 hurdles, and senior Jayden Thompson in the discus throw. The Savages were also runners-up in the 4-by-800 and the distance medley.
Klett would end up third in the 400, as would Thompson in the shot put toss, freshman Levi Myers in the mile, junior Owen Menke in the 110 hurdles and sophomore Landon Conrad in the long jump.
On their way to a third-place finish as a team at 129.5 points, Winfield-Mount Union got another victory from Kohlby Newsom in the mile. The senior crossed the finish line in 4:48, while freshman teammate Cruz Hagmeier also won the 110 hurdles in 15.69 seconds.
WMU would pick up three relay wins as well, claiming Class B crowns in the 4-by-800 in 9:34, the sprint medley in 1:37 and the distance medley in 3:42. Sophomore Parker Wilson was second in the long jump, as was senior Cooper Buffington in the shot put and the Wolves’ 4-by-400 relay.
Junior Sheaden Adams added a bronze medal for Winfield-Mount Union in the 200, as did Buffington in the discus, junior Jaiden Beeding in the open 800 and senior Levi Walter in the 400 hurdles. WMU was also third in the 4-by-200 and the shuttle hurdles
Lone Tree picked up one victory courtesy of Domonic Garcia, who had the top time of 11.64 seconds in the 100. The junior was also second in the 200, while the Lions finished in third place in the 4-by-100.
