The Golden Hawk Invitational Tournament title is staying home this year. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls golf team topped a field of nine other teams with their overall score of 379 at the Kalona Golf Course Thursday. That number was two better than second place Williamsburg. The Hawks were led by Morgyn Bender’s 91 to finish in fifth place overall. Williamsburg’s Rubi Allison was the individual champion with an 86.

Other Golden Hawk scores included Addison English 93 for seventh, Olivia Swartzentruber 94 for ninth, 101 for Lilly Miller, Alena Snider 104, Paiton Chittick 114 and Delani Blum 117. Afterward, the happy group of Hawks joined KCII Sports in the clubhouse to talk about the win, “We have to wait for the scores to come in. We talk with each other, add up our scores and figure out what we got. Then as we do that we can watch the board and what each team gets. That when we realized we won! It feels good! It feels accomplished! It feels really good! Especially beating Williamsburg today after we lost to them last week. Today it was by two strokes and that just shows you that it comes down to the last few strokes. Last year was an amazing year, but getting to do something that we couldn’t do last year feels really good!”

Mid-Prairie is now 18-3 on the year and is back in action Monday when they host Wilton.
