A new Kwik Star location is coming to Kalona, according to City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh and sales data in the Washington County GIS.

The new gas station will be located just southwest of the intersection of Highways 1 and 22 and was purchased last October for $707,500.

Schlabaugh says the purchase represents a major investment in Kalona, “They’ve got plans in place for a facility to be built in June or July of this year with a tentative opening of late 2025, so we’re excited to have them in town. It’s a major investment in our community, you’re looking at a $4-plus million commitment.”

Kwik Star is the Iowa name for Wisconsin-based Kwik Trip, which uses a different name in the Hawkeye state to avoid confusion with Oklahoma-based QuikTrip.
