A pair of KCII area schools sent their boys and girls track and field teams to the Gardner-Wilson Relays Thursday at Louisa-Muscatine High School in Letts.

The Columbus Wildcats boys continued their winning ways, grabbing the team title with 189 points to 123 for second place Van Buren. The win runs the ‘Cats consecutive team title streak over 25 meets in a row. Eight Columbus events were winners including Lamar Ceant in the 110 hurdles and 200 in 14.8 and 22.42 seconds respectively. Ty Muniz won the two-mile in 10:14 and the mile in 4:47. Riley Kaalberg was long jump winner at 20’2.5”. The Wildcat 4×800, distance medley and shuttle hurdle teams were all winners in 9:07, 3:55 and 1:09 respectively. Other top performances included runners-up for Ceant in the 100, Alexander Rees in the 110 hurdles and 200, Fritz Figaro in shot put and the 4×2 and sprint medleys. Third place belonged to Kaalberg in the 100, Cade Storm in the 800, Drake Marin in the mile, Angel Venzor in 400 hurdles, Ceant in long jump, Figaro in discus and the 4×1 and 4×4 teams.

Hillcrest Academy was seventh of seven teams with 11 points. Scoring events for the Ravens included runner-up for Kale Bailey in high jump, fifth for the 4×200 with Kayden Estell, Jack Turner, Enoch Adza and Bailey and sixth for the 4×100 of Estell, Cohen Nachtigall, Adza and Bailey.

On the girls side, Hillcrest was the local leader at 66 points for fifth of seven schools. The Ravens had two championship events including Delaney Shaw in long jump at 15’8.25” and Niva Helmuth in high jump, clearing 4’10”. Other event highlights were runner-up for Marie Yoder in the 1500 and third for Seina Stanerson in the 3000, the 4×200 team of Morgyn Nafziger, Stavia Miller, Natalie Meganathan and Shaw, and Miller in the 200.

The Columbus girls were sixth of seven with 46 points. The Wildcats had two championship events with Isabella Forbes throwing 33’4” in shot put, and the 4×200 finishing in 1:55.98. Ariana Vergara was second in the 100 hurdles, Forbes was third in discus as was the 4×100 team. Vergara was fifth in the 100 as was the sprint medley team.
