
The Winfeld-Mount Union Wolves won another boys’ golf dual Friday against New London. WMU’s combined team score of 161 strokes was 41 better than the Tigers at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Winfield.
Sophomore Justin Knipfer and junior Grant Anderson tied for the top score of Winfield-Mount Union by each shooting the medalist round of four-over-par 39. Junior Konner Kinneberg was only stroke back of them, while sophomore Cody Milks fired a 43 and juniors Max Edwards and Nick Sparrow each had 46 for the Wolves.
The WMU girls would come up just short against New London, falling seven strokes shy with a final team score of 222. Freshman Ashlyn Bender paced Winfield-Mount Union by shooting a 14-over 49, while juniors Kellee Milks and Ella Kann had rounds of 53 and 55, respectively.
While they would not have any official team competition, the Sigourney Savages would share the course with conference rival Iowa Valley Thursday at Marengo Golf Club.
Junior Solon Yates shot 35 to lead the Sigourney boys, with senior Cain Weber and freshman Jordan Tremmel each only two strokes behind him. Junior Josh Wyatt added a 39 for the Savages, while sophomore Ike Molyneux finished with 41 and senior Isaac Bruns carded a 47.
Ella Bruns had the top round of 48 for the Sigourney girls, while fellow freshman Ella Fineran shot an even 50 and junior Kayla Renner had a 51. Senior Reagan Clarahan added a 52, with sophomore Adalynne Tremmel and senior Hannah Hanselman posting rounds of 54 and 55, respectively.
Sigourney was coming off a loss to Ottuwma in a dual Tuesday at Cedar Creek Golf Course, falling 13 strokes shy of the Bulldogs after compiling a team score of 212. Renner led the Savages by shooting a 48 and finished second overall, while Hanselman was tied for third with a 51.
Tremmel added a 56 for Sigourney, with Bruns only one stroke behind her and Clarahan two back at 58. Fineran rounded out the scoring for the Savages with a 59.
