April is National Safe Digging Month and the Iowa Utilities Commission is reminding Iowans to take steps for safe practices. State law requires Iowans to contact One Call prior to any digging activities by calling 811 or online at IowaOneCall.com. This includes excavators, operators, locators, and residents before starting any projects.

These efforts provide utility companies time to mark any underground utilities in the intended work area. Iowa One Call submissions should be made at least 48 hours before starting a project. This prevents damage to underground utilities and provides safety to those who are digging.
