The State of Iowa has made a change for the high school diploma equivalency exam. The GED is no longer offered, instead those interested can take the HiSet exam. Director of the Kirkwood Washington Center Tera Pickens explains that much of the same subject matter that was in the GED is covered in this exam – reading, writing, math, science and social science.

Pickens adds that there are a few benefits to the HiSet test – it is cheaper, it can be taken on paper or on the computer, and there are English and Spanish versions. The HiSet test costs $50 for all five subject areas and a $10 diploma fee.
