On Monday, while choosing the projects they want funded by a spring bond issue, the Mid-Prairie School Board decided not to include a new middle school gym. Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says they’re happy with that decision, because it leaves the potential for a facility shared between the City and District open. It also gives them more time to develop a plan.
He shares that during this week’s City Council meeting, the council said they were still in support of continuing discussions with Mid-Prairie regarding the partnership.
Sharing a building that would serve both the needs of the school district and city has been talked about since early 2013.
