The Washington Demon wrestlers ran into a very strong Davenport Assumption squad at the team Regional Dual Championships last night. The Demons finished second as a team at Mediapolis in Sectionals on Saturday to earn the right to compete at Regionals. Washington ended up losing to Assumption in Wilton last night 69-3. District qualifier Zach Walgren won the Demons only match at 125. The Demons were resting two of their four district qualifiers Clint Stout and Tyler Jaspering. Washington Head Coach Brent Van Weelden says they are dinged up a little and they didn’t want to risk further injury. Travis Shellman also a district qualifier lost but Van Weelden says it was to a very strong kid. Columbus and Moticello were the other two teams competeing at the Wilton site, Columbus beat Monticello in a close one 36-34. Assumption then beat Columbus 67-4 earning a trip to the state dual tournament.
