Several KCII area wrestling athletes have advances to the second day of competition at the 2015 Iowa High School Athletic Association’s State Wrestling tournament in Des Moines.

All four Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union wrestlers have advances to Friday’s competition in Class 2A. Junior Josh Keller (106) and sophomore Tucker Morrison (170) are moving on in the championship bracket, while senior Mitchell Griffin (170) and Kyle Davis (285) wrestled their way into day two of competition on the consolation side. Keller will face Williamburg’s Grayston Kesterson (42-7 overall) in the championship quarterfinals this morning. Morrison has Clarinda’s JJ Clark awaiting him in the championship bracket. Griffin and Davis are both awaiting their next opponent.

The Sigourney-Keota wrestling team lost three individuals in day one of competition in the Class 1A bracket. Freshman Kaleb Reeves (182), sophomore Noah Boender (220), and senior Bryce Brown (285) were each eliminated Thursday evening. The team did get Nathan Fritz (145) and Lane Boender (152) through to Friday’s matches on the championship bracket. Fritz is meeting Sumner-Fredricksburg in the quarterfinals, while Boender is facing Edgewood-Colesburg’s Sawyer Amling in his first match today.

For the Highland Huskies, sophomore brothers Drew West (113) and Bryce West (120) advanced in the championship round of the Class 1A tournament in a pin of their first round opponent. Senior Zach Kleopfer has been eliminated from competition.

Finally, Lone Tree senior Alex Yedlik (145) has moved on in the championship bracket of the Class 1A competition by pinning his first round opponent. Yedlik faces Alburtnett’s Conner Shulista in his match in day two of the competition.

The 2015 Iowa High School Athletic Association’s State wrestling tournament resumes this morning at 9 a.m. at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Listen to KCII throughout the day for results.
