Several KCII area wrestlers also found themselves compete for a podium spot on the final day of the state tournament in Des Moines.
In the Class 1A tournament Saturday evening, Highland sophomore Bryce West (120) is your state champion by major decision over West Marshall’s Cole Needham in his championship matchup. West finishes the year undefeated at 50-0. Bryce’s brother, sophomore Drew West (113), finished his state tournament in third place with a 6-1 decision victory over Southeast Warren’s Brady Kyner in his final match. Drew West ended his season with a 49-1 record.
Sigourney-Keota senior Nathan Fritz (145) finished his high school wrestling career as the third best wrestler in his field winning by pin over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Brady Brott 31 seconds into their match. Fritz finishes his senior season with a 49-2 overall record. Junior Lane Boender (152) finished the tournament in eighth place .
Lone Tree senior Alex Yedlik (145) finished his high school wrestling career as the sixth best wrestler in his bracket, losing a 6-2 decision to Audubon’s Brad Kerkhoff in the fifth place match. Yedlik finishes his high school wrestling career with a 42-6 overall record.
In Class 2A Saturday evening Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union’s Josh Keller (106) lost his championship match by pin to Creston’s Michael Millage four minutes into his match. Keller ends his season with a 43-4 overall record. Sophomore Tucker Morrison (170) and senior Kyle Davis (285) both finished in eighth place in their respective weight classes.
