A lack of eligible players has forced the Columbus baseball team (0-20) to forfeit their playoff appearance. The Wildcats were originally scheduled to face the West Branch Bears (12-13 overall) in the Class 2A District 10 quarterfinal on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. but was postponed due to inclement weather.
Columbus baseball coach Jake McCullough was informed of a family emergency over the weekend and two of his players have to miss today’s make up game. The two missing players left the Wildcats with seven eligible varsity players, two short of fielding a full lineup.
The game has been scored as a 7-0 victory for the West Branch Bears, who will meet Iowa City Regina tomorrow evening in Wellman for the semifinal of the Class 2A District 10 bracket. Columbus Community’s season comes to an end at 0-20.
