The Iowa Legislature is not expected to hold a special session. Following Governor Terry Branstad’s veto of $55.7 million in K-12 funding, democratic members of the Iowa House and Senate expressed interest in heading back to Des Moines to try and overturn the decision.
In order for a special session to be held, two-thirds of the lawmakers in the house and senate will need to support holding one. According to Republican State Representative Dave Heaton, it won’t happen. He says the senate minority leader stated in a recent email that senate republicans will not vote in favor of a special session.
