There were 424 crash fatalities nationwide in 2013 during the three-day Labor Day weekend, with about half of those involving drivers who had been drinking. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 27 percent of the drivers involved in those wrecks had a blood alcohol content of .15 or higher. In Iowa four people were killed during the same time period and 25 percent were alcohol related. This Labor Day weekend, law enforcement agencies will be stepping up enforcement.
