The Lone Tree Lion football team was on the road Friday night against Belle Plaine. The Plainsmen took the contest by a 34-14 final score.
Lone Tree moved the ball inside of the BP 35 yardline on their first possession but turned the ball over on downs. The Plainsmen used that momentum to march down the field and take an 8-0 lead with a touchdown and two point conversion. Things stayed that way until very late in the first half when the Plainsmen struck again with under a minute to play before the break, leaving the Lions down 14-0 at the half.
Belle Plaine extended that lead with another touchdown on the first possession of the second half to go up 22-0 but the Lions answered with a commanding 11 play 64 yard drive to get on the board and pull within 22-8 on a Jared Hudson four yard touchdown run. From there the two teams traded scores with Lone Tree’s final touchdown coming at the end of a three play 67 yard drive as Hudson found the end zone again, this time from 20 yards out.
On the night Lone Tree rolled up 234 yards rushing, led by Hudson who finished with 140 yards on 22 carries and a pair of scores. Trey Pierson was four of eight through the air for eight yards. With the loss Lone Tree falls to 1-1 on the season and will be in action again Friday when they open up district play against Van Buren.
