In 2015, the City of Washington received $4.02 million from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation as part of the foundation’s allocated municipal grant funds. City Administrator Brent Hinson said they’re blessed to have the foundation in the community. Washington has spent $3.76 million of the money so far. The plans for future usage of the municipal grant funds include using $250,000 each year on the street improvement program to match general obligation borrowing, legal and engineering costs including the renovation and expansion of City Hall and the police and fire facilities. Also, the money will be used to fulfill a five-year pledge to the Washington Community auditorium project.
