Governor Terry Branstad has unveiled a plan to pull funds from a one cent sales tax earmarked for schools. The plan calls for some of the funds to be put towards water quality programs through 2049. Representative Jarad Klein tells KCII News, he finds the plan concerning to local schools looking for stability because many districts are already cash strapped.
State Senator Kevin Kinney echoed those concerns saying, he finds it wrong that the funds would be taken from schools at a time when the budget is already stretched to the limit.
The first $10 million collected each year would go to infrastructure with the rest being funneled to the water quality projects. Currently the funds are used for school infrastructure projects.
