A Wayland woman who plead guilty to embezzlement in October has been sentenced to 41 months in federal prison. According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, the former officer of the board of Country Bancorporation, Heidi Wagler, embezzled more than $1 million over a nearly a decade.
Fifty-year-old Wagler, admitted in a plea agreement that she embezzled over $864,000 from June 2004 to October 2013 from Country Bancorporation, which controlled seven banks. She did this by paying herself salary to which she was not entitled. Her husband, Russell Wagler, was the director, president and CEO of the same bank and she admitted to paying him more than $200,000 in additional compensation.
Heidi Wagler was sentenced to 41 months’ imprisonment and fined $50,000. She was released and is to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on a date yet to be set, according to the attorney’s office.
