The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) includes rules for global trade for 12 countries on the Pacific Rim and a legislator from Iowa says it’s important for Iowa’s agriculture community. The TPP includes the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Vietnam, Chile, Brunei, Singapore and New Zealand. Senator Chuck Grassley explains it is important to agricultural producers as it helps most commodities, except corn, in his eyes. He says it likely won’t be brought up for a vote until after the election in November.
According to the Office of the United States Trade Representative, more than 18,000 taxes and trade barriers would be eliminated and make it easier for American products to be sold abroad. For more information click here.
