The Highland School District Board of Directors will be hosting another work session on Monday as they continue to consider ideas as to how to cut their budget. The school is dealing with a $230,000 shortfall this year due to declining enrollment and lack of state funding. At three previous work sessions suggestions have included increasing efficiency of bus routes, making the buildings more energy efficient, sharing teachers and staff with other districts, outsourcing custodial work, and investing in solar or wind energy, among other suggestions.
Highland Superintendent Chris Armstrong tells KCII News he would like to find $500,000 in savings and the school board will have difficult decisions to make in March when they set the budget. The meeting will be Monday, March 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the Highland board room.
