The Fiscal Year 2017 budget was approved by the five council members in attendance for the City of Washington Tuesday night. The special session meeting had no public comment regarding the budget. City Administrator Brent Hinson said the bottom line revenues are $18, 096,016 and expenditures are $18,928,200. The tax levy is set at 15.82079, no changes from last year. Speaking of that rate, councilman Jaron Rosien said he’d like to see it lowered some day, to which Hinson explained to do that the City needs to grow its tax base. This is the fifth straight year at that rate.
