Kalona is taking part in a project to enhance transportation in Iowa’s communities with populations under 10,000 people. The 2016 Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning Program helps community volunteers improve areas along roads aesthetically and ecologically. Kalona is one of 10 communities selected for this year’s program. Currently those involved are assessing local resource and identifying community needs and that information will be used to develop a plan. A focus group workshop is being held March 19th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kalona Community Center for residents to share ideas.
The program is sponsored by the Iowa Department of Transportation, in partnership with Iowa State University Extension Landscape Architecture and Trees Forever.
