A fundraising idea has several former Washington Demon track athletes set to compete at Case Field once again. Tomorrow marks the annual Demon Relays in Washington and 40 graduates will take part in the inaugural Alumni 4×150 meter relay race.
Washington head track coaches Steve Roth and Stefanie Tschantz were guests on this past weekend’s JET Physical Therapy Radio Coaches Corner and said the race is being used as a way to raise money for replacement record boards for the district. Roth said their are five men’s and women’s teams set to compete, and each alumni has donated $20 to be part of the event. Roth explains the event was set at 150 meter because he felt 100 meters wasn’t worth the entry fee but 200 meters was a bit far for the former Demon athletes to run.
The participants taking part in the men’s race include Adam Miller, Andy Six, Alex Six, Greg Giardino, Gage Redlinger, Matt Doughty, Spencer Sorrell, John Greiner, Justin Greiner, Kelly Williams, Brent Stout, Brad Witthoft, Luke Horak, Tracy Kleese, Michael Hofer and Alex Klopfenstein.
Tschantz is among the 25 women who are running in the race. Other participants include Dema Giardino, Mariah Reighard, Makenna Reighard, Macy Marek, Dylann Schluetter, Sydney Greiner, Joni Erwin, Makenna Goodwin, Maquel Anding, Theresa Bump, Paige Stout, Brittany Burnham, Stefanie Tschantz, Heather Marek, Krista Gaal, Addison Gaal, Devin Glaspie, Jackie Knupp, Melanie Huschka and Teri Hartzler.
The Demon Relays are scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Field events are set to begin at 4:30 p.m. and running events start at 5 p.m. at Case Field in Washington.
